Hello, I’m Maya Cox.

I’m an integrative counsellor registered with the BACP, working with adults - both at my counselling room in Yeovil and online across the UK. Whether you arrive with something specific in mind, or simply a sense that things feel too much, you’ll be met with warmth and without judgement.

I work with adults on a wide range of concerns - from anxiety, low mood and stress to relationships and life’s bigger changes. Supporting people through bereavement, grief and loss holds a special place in my heart, whether the loss is recent or something you’ve carried for a long time, and it’s an area I have particular experience in. Alongside my private practice, I also work in bereavement support with a local hospice and as a support worker within an NHS child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) - roles I genuinely love, and which continue to enrich how I understand and support the people I work with.

My own path to this work is a personal one. When I was younger, I received counselling during a difficult time, and it became a real turning point. I went on to serve in the Royal Navy for four and a half years, and while I learned a great deal, in time I realised it wasn’t the right life for me. What kept calling me was that earlier experience of being supported, so I retrained as a counsellor, to offer others the kind of space that once made such a difference to me.

About me:

BACP registered - Clinically supervised - Fully insured - DBS checked

Congruence is at the heart of my work - being real, and meeting you where you are. I believe we all carry something inside that is strong: a truth, a resilience, a self that longs to be seen. My role is to help you feel safe enough to let that be heard.

My approach & philosophy

What I believe

• You deserve to be met in your truth - with authenticity, and to feel genuinely heard.

• Unconditional acceptance matters deeply to me, in part because I understand what its absence can feel like.

• A good therapeutic relationship is a rare and special thing - someone in your corner, no matter what.

• You are the expert on your own life. My hope is to help you grow your self-worth, confidence and a real sense of your own strength.

I won’t try to “fix” you or rush you towards feeling “better”. I gently set aside any expectations of my own and follow your agenda, with patience and space. Rather than positioning myself as the one with the answers - which can feel unhelpful, even daunting - I offer a steady, intentional presence, trusting that you hold your own answers and walking alongside you as you find them.

How I hold our work

Being an integrative counsellor means I’m not tied to a single method. I weave together different therapeutic approaches around one guiding question: how can I best support you, while staying authentic, relational and collaborative? Alongside talking, I also draw on Gestalt and creative ways of working, for anyone who finds some things easier to show than to say. In practice, that looks like:

  • Person-centred at the core - acceptance before anything, and the relationship first.

  • Psychodynamic & existential threads - space to explore identity, choice and meaning, and how earlier experiences shape the way we cope now.

  • Elements of CBT - a gentle structure connecting thoughts, feelings and behaviour, with psychoeducation, reassurance and a growing sense of agency.

  • Creative ways of working - to reach a little deeper, allowing for release and insight that words alone sometimes can’t.

An integrative approach

Much of my work begins on the inside. When we take time to understand ourselves, our sense of who we are, the beliefs we hold, and how we really think and feel about ourselves, we build a steadier foundation to meet the world from. Together we can gently explore your identity, nurture your self-worth and confidence, and make sense of what’s happening in your body and nervous system, so that in time you feel more grounded, more empowered, and more able to relate to the people and situations around you - all within a warm, trusting relationship where it feels safe to look within.
